over the years, lo recordings has taken pride in exploring a wide and broad range of sounds, genres and styles. to mark 20 years of lo recordings, we are taking a fresh and bold approach with our output to further explore the accelerating and refined developments in electronic music today. this is the first of our new phase of releases, a collaborative project between the two titans mr. g and k15. �a learning curve� is exactly as the title suggests, an educational experience to un- derstand each other musically and technically, and to explore new territories and schools of thought. as avid users and fans of the mpc, as well as being extremely busy, both mr. g and k15 were given the same samples dug out of the lo recordings archives to each create a track which would remotely display their techniques and methods. this was quick- ly adopted to be the theme in a series of three releases to come out throughout the year from the pair. the results come in the form of mr. g�s mesmerising �navigate� and k15�s introspective �the guilt within�, two very individual tracks in their own rights. �navigate� is instantly recognisable as the work of its creator, armed and ready to bring the dance floor to hypnotic heights. with its rough and gritty sound, driving kick & synth stabs, and hauntingly majestic keys, we are thrown into peak of the night. on the flip, �the guilt within� takes a turn to more ominous terri- tories, crafting an atmosphere on the other end of the spectrum to �navigate�. a beautiful and delicate journey carried along by light skipping percussion, immersive sweeping pads and a puls- ing sub which all come together to take the listener deep inside themselves.

a1 --aqua lifeforms- is perhaps the least intense cut on the record, a sort of a slow grower which builds up momentum by layering sounds and pads. a2 -body mover- is exactly what the title tells you. crunchy peak time tune for the dance floor, with shuffling broken beats wrapping around deep chords that hint what s happening on the flip side. b1 -doorway to her- is a nod to the classic deep techno chord-ish approach. well, sort of. the song lets you think that until the first curveball just before the half of the track. after that, it s just deeper than deep. b2 -pulsing hearts- is another well-crafted dance floor cut. the track moves from deep meditative vibe to subtle acid tripping, just to be finished with a proper bass workout. overall, we couldn t think of a better way to mark the 10th barba release.

since its beginnings, fracture has followed the formula of releasing upcoming and interesting newcomers, people they believe in, to get them remixed by more established artists. this time its none other than uk techno legend james ruskin stepping up to the task, for a track carefully crafted by berlin based artist leiras. leiras comes from madrid, and has in the last few years since his move to germany released a handful of eps, mostly on his own ownlife imprint. abyssal is a trippy and atmospheric cut, the kind of deep techno that can transport you into a second state if dropped at the right time. on remix duty, ruskin makes it weirder and grittier, slowly and skillfully building the tension from atmospheric to potential peak time material.

following his last two ep releases on southern fried records, half-austrian/half-russian artist producer motsa (real name valerio dittrich) has announced his forthcoming fourth ep petricolour , due out 4th november on his own label imprint. petricolour ep is written about the decline of our western society, its beauty, wealth and our opportunities having reached a peak and the onset of gradual decay. this is reflected in the accompanying artwork (photograph by andreas peter wall) , the flowers symbolising deterioration but retaining some beauty and hope. throughout the ep, motsa incorporates organic textures and sounds recorded from nature and his surroundings.

there s an abundance of boogie-infused heat pouring out of freekwency s latest offering to keep you warm on those cold winter nights. ale chambers lays down a smooth, passionate vocal line on the title track before we get treated to some excellent alternative versions. the -first touch- mix is a buffed up jam that brings the electro funk into a leaner club-ready situation, while magic touch and luvraw work a tougher house thump underneath chambers vocal on the b-side. not content with making a peak time killer out of the original, the pairing also turn in a sublime ambient mix with the drums replaced by swirling, dubbed-out synth lines.

going back to classics could fall so easily, luckily for skudge presents, the persistent and class-act of mark broom leaves the mediocre in its rubble. eric cloutier: broom is a legend. i can t even count how many of his records i own. both of these are pure fire loving it! the kicking a-side, moments1, with the high paced energy and flirtations with the dutch classic style of techno-house crossover brings a smile upon djs and dancers alike - without going too much into nostalgia, this track is sure to find its way through the peak times. moments2 on the flip submerges deeper into this records vibe, with a progression that throbs more than kicks, with a saw tooth lead that keeps the moody atmosphere intact. a sure-shot 2 tracker is what we need and what we get

it took 2 years to finally release these reworks for the debut album by philogresz. taped wall of sound kinda drift from the cyclist aka buz ludzha complemented by zk bucket s straight on moody jam gives the ep a strained contrast. not to mention peak time euphoric philogresz remake of his own asakusa that is dedicated to the japanese eels in that neighborhood. gazing cutsz!

the second release of another earth is upon us and this time it s all about proper detroit techno combined with distorted left wing machine house. the label combines 2 acts together in a split ep series which compliment each others sound. for the a-side the highly talented producer, plural (separate skills, metroplex, u.s.), created 2 essential detroit techno tracks. the a1 is a warm uplifting peak time bomb and the a2 has a darker vibe concentrated on the groove. the b-side hosts 2 tracks from the intriguing mind of hakim murphy (machine dreams, chicago, u.s.). the b1 is a heavy distorted peak time house banger while the b2 is quite the opposite, deep and obscure.

vinyl only. french duo dixia sirong make their vinyl debut on inner balance, the daughter-label of chez damier�s genre-defining balance imprint. this offshoot is proving to be a rich source of diverse, updated classic house sounds, and its third release is no exception. �winnie� kicks the ep off with a laid-back vibe perfect for afternoon grooving. the techier edge to �berry white� makes it well-suited for later in the evening when the dancefloor starts moving, while broken beats and liquid ambience take �haqan fen� into post-peak deepness � make sure to wait for the enveloping bass that arrives five and a half minutes in. �winnie�s cut�, finally, is an irresistible precision groove of the sort you might hear in the late late hours at club der visionaere, its soft pads, ricocheting percussion and rolling bass unfurling into the morning sun.

the second release on the vinyl only series of apes go bananas finally drops. the label is the new imprint from steve bug and clé, who together make up the production team for the releases. as with the well-received first ep, all we have is straight-up, no-nonsense, dance floor-filling house tracks. lead cut �all we have settles right into the groove with crisp and funky percussion, chi-town chords and amazing vocal samples. its got peak time written all over it. she cargo makes its influences pretty clear via the title, and the track certainly references some of the iconic sounds of the home of house. thick, rubbery bass lines, squiggly synths and firing percussion combine to deliver a suitable a homage to the windy city. �ape parade is built from some similar materials, but the chords are a little more lush and deep - synth strings and keys add a sense of the epic, and everything is tied together with a sick kick / snare / hat pattern. three modern killers for the floor, infused with the spirit of classic house.

for the second and last ep of contemporary spaces remixes, dynamic reflection welcomes yet another batch of talented producers to the label. just like the first remix ep, it is a mix between household names, and up and comers. first off, it�s perc�s interpretation of glide. the uk based artist, who is known for his use of distortion and aggressiveness, takes it down a notch on this occasion. he has made glide into a echoing and glitchy track that doesn t reach its energy peak until the last couple of minutes. matrixxman takes overwith his biohazard mix of future existence, which contains a tensive synth, confined by a filter that gradually opens,and than closes again, retaining your attention at all times. on the bside, shdw and obscure shape reshaped the hunt to provide the first outright dance floor track of the ep. with its thumping kick and epic pads around the breaks, it�s bound to win crowds over in the club. dutch talent ben buitendijk also remixed future existence, in his own distinctive, hypnotic style. a deep, though energetic track with a very mature sound.
